PMI Receives Communication Equipment Assistance from Japan

Serang, Banten – The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) received the donation of a solar wifi station unit from Nakayama Iron Work (NIW) Ltd. through the Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) where the handover was carried out at the regional warehouse of PMI HQ in Serang Banten, Thursday (20/2)

“We are grateful for Japan’s humanitarian commitment to Indonesia. We are confident that in the future this collaboration will continue to be strengthened, “said Secretary General of the PMI HQ Sudirman Said during the handover of Solar Wifi Station Systems assistance to disaster areas

Sudirman conveyed, since the Aceh and Nias tsunami in 2004, PMI and JRCS cooperation has been getting closer. Japanese society’s contribution continues to flow at each disaster event.

Sudirman revealed, currently JRCS and PMI are completing the Integrated Community Based Risk Reduction (ICBRR) program, a community empowerment program to build preparedness to face natural disasters.

Meanwhile, the Head of the PMI Disaster Management Center, Lt. Gen. (ret.) Sumarsono said this tool would be very helpful for communication in the affected areas.

PMI is currently receiving solar wifi station assistance, besides that it has also been given training related to this Solar Wifi Station to increase PMI’s capacity in duty

“Tools like this are needed because Indonesia is a disaster-prone area. Every regional PMI needs to have this tool, “he said.

According to him, this tool is very useful especially in supporting PMI services in the field, especially in disaster emergency response conditions

He explained, this Solar Wifi Station serves to activate the internet connection by using the Solar System as its main energy so that it does not need electricity, this tool will be very useful for use in areas affected by disasters that result in a breakdown of the electricity network

Meanwhile, President Nakayama Iron Work (NIW) in his statement via Skype Call explained that he would continue to improve the performance of this machine in the hope that PMI could use it constantly.

Currently it has just built a Research Laboratory in collaboration with ITB Bandung, it is committed to supporting technical maintenance by sending their staff at ITB when needed by PMI

Mr. Watanabe mentioned that Indonesia is a country that has a great disaster threat as well as Japan. Besides that PMI is also an important partner of the Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) in supporting humanitarian activities. Therefore, he chose PMI as the recipient of this Solar Wifi Station donation

In the submission of the “Solar Wifi Station” unit, PMI Secretary Sudirman Said was immediately received and the Head of Disaster Management for the Central PMI, Lt. Gen. (ret.) Sumarsono was handed over by the International Development Cooperation Division of the Japanese Red Cross (JRCS) delegation Yuki Aoki accompanied by Awaluddin, JRCS Indonesia Country Coordinator and Yana Maulana, JRCS Indonesia’s Senior Staff

In addition, also witnessed by the Head of PMI Headquarters Sunarbowo sandi, Secretary of the PMI Banten Province Dr. Rahmat Fitriadi and Deputy Head of Organization Hidayat Djohari accompanied by Head of office of PMI Banten Ms Embay Bahriyah along with a group of staff from PMI
